Peter Maunder

Peter Maunder was born in Hull in 1960 and began his music making at the age of 9 on the guitar. He took up the euphonium at 11 and later the trombone, which he went on to study in Huddersfield with Barrie Webb as trombone tutor and Michael Holloway for composition.

After a further year at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies London, Peter worked as a freelance musician and teacher in Manchester, mixing orchestral, brass band, ensemble and early music.

In 1990 he moved to New Zealand and the following year joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He has also been busy as a tutor, soloist, conductor and arranger in the Brass Band scene. More recently, he has been devoting his time to writing original works for brass, these have received performances by Joe Alessi, Riki McDonnell and also the Talisker Trio.
