For quite some time now I have been looking forward to producing a new, dynamic and exciting magazine for trombone players; something to focus on topics that I think will be of interest all around the world, not to compete with other existing trombone magazines. It is my hope that Glissando will become essential reading for all trombone aficionados and a tool for the enhancement of everything trombone-related. This first magazine, which we are pleased to send you free of charge, is a taster of things to come.
In this first issue we feature some of the leading exponents of this instrument, like Eugene Watts - the ‘legend’ who performed for many years with Canadian Brass, we visit instrument manufacturer Mick Rath and hear about his early years in the business, Ron Barron (USA) talks to us about life after Boston, whilst Top Notes in this issue comes from Gordon Campbell (UK) and Bill Broughton (Australia). Sam Woodhead (USA) tells us about this year’s ETW, Steve Legge talks to us about brass education in the UK, Justin Matthews examines new initiatives in the British Army, Martin McCain (USA) discusses Music Matters, we meet Martin Wilson in Northern Ireland and Richard Walker (UK) discusses the pros and cons of some of the new gadgets on the market, followed by news on the ITA awards and what’s on. So, plenty there to suit all tastes!
