Who needs three tenors when youv'e got 16 trombones? On 19 September 2001 Bone Lab, in conjunction with the Education Departmnet of the Royal Opera House organised an early evening pre-opera concert for large trombone ensemble in the magnificent Covent Garden piazza, broadcast and 'big screen' televised in the same way as the popular live performances. The participants were the students from the London music colleges (Guildhall, Royal Academy, Royal College & Trinity) alongside the trombone section of the Royal Opera House.
Such an occaision naturally demanded a piece from the operatic repertoire and the result was this arrangement of one of Puccini's best loved arias. The 'tenor' solist was one of the House's principal trombones, Michael Hext, while the arranger, the other principal, directed.
