Composed and dedicated to Donald Knaub
Winning composition - 1994 Tampa Bay Composers' Forum Contest
Notes to performer: If necessary, due to programming considerations, it is acceptable to the composer that the "Dance" movement be performed alone. This movement has also been successfully used as a dance piece.
The composition can be played by either bass or tenor trombone. Although some alternate octaves are provided, others may be necessary provided that care is taken to maintain peak high points.
The tape must be stopped and started between the two movements.
Program notes: The sounds on the tape were all created by digitally recorded sounds from the trombone, which were processed by the Fairlight Computer Music Instrument. The composition explores the worlds of both concert hall and jazz, and needs a performer who is at home with these often contrasting styles.
