“Pete the Plate” was written for John Elliott’s lower brass group “Brasso ProFUNdo” as a sequel to “ Fred the Fork “ and “Syd the Spoon”. The titles of all three pieces alluding to a song written by Brecht and Weil in 1929 Berlin that has now become a jazz standard.
“Pete the plate” is in a slow heavy swing style, creating an atmosphere like that of the sleazy dives of pre-war Berlin.
Note the two cryptic quotes towards the end of the piece. Be sure to give prominence to the second euphonium part at bar 9 in order to vary the overall sound at this point. “Pete” was originally for two euphoniums (trombones) and a tuba, however we have included a range of parts to suit:
Part 1
Euphonium/Trombone - Bass Clef
Euphonium/Trombone - Treble Clef
Horn in F
Tenor Horn in Eb
Part 2
Euphonium/Trombone - Bass Clef
Euphonium/Trombone - Treble Clef
Part 3
Eb Bass
Tuba
