This is a diverse set of pieces tinged with not a little eccentricity in places. I enjoyed playing the set as part of a concert with my friend and
colleague Samantha Christopher to whom the set is dedicated. Although
the style and content of the pieces is varied I was pleased to find a
growing sense of narrative through the set as we rehearsed and played it.
My personal favourites are “Strange Little Dancer” with its whimsical
harmony and “Passing Clouds” which to me evokes the slowly evolving
cloudscape on a summer afternoon. Samantha enjoyed particularly
“Making Plans” which she liked to take at a fast pace which gives it a
flavour of pantomime or silent film antics.
The music will suit players at intermediate level.
